Dr. William Okell, who founded Okell’s Brewery in Castle Hill, Douglas, Isle of Man, in 1850, was a man of singular drive and ambition.
Not only did he go on to build the much-renowned Falcon Steam Brewery in 1874, he also convinced the Isle of Man’s Parliament to pass an Act ensuring the purity of all beer brewed on the Isle of Man.
That Act survives to this day.
